BROOKLYN, Conn — Two men from The Bronx, N.Y. were caught stealing cooking oil from at least three businesses along Route 6 in Brooklyn, Conn. early Wednesday morning, according to Connecticut State Police.
Troopers said they got a call from a witness who saw two men with a white van with New Jersey license plates taking cooking oil from local restaurants in the area.
Responding troopers located the van in a business parking lot and discovered that the two men had taken nearly 135 gallons of cooking oil from three local businesses.
All three business owners told state police that the men did not have permission to be on their properties and take any cooking oil, officials said.
Both Michael Mejia, 32, and Adriano Munoz-Reyes, 37, were arrested and charged with larceny, criminal trespass and carrying burglary tools. They were both held on a $5,000 bond and were taken later Wednesday to court for arraignment.
Cooking oil is used to make biodiesel fuels, animal feeds along with industrial uses.
