CHAPLIN, Conn. — An early morning fire destroyed a single-family home in Chaplin on Tuesday morning as firefighters’ response was hampered by the winter storm. At least one person was unaccounted for.
Firefighters responded to a home on Willimantic Road in Chaplin around 5 a.m. and the snow conditions made it difficult for the first responders. They said the snow-covered roads and trees made their response much more difficult.
After several hours, the fire was extinguished. Fire officials at the scene said the home was a total loss.
Officials said about three-quarters of the home collapsed and they are working on tearing down the rest.
By 9 a.m., officials said at least one person was unaccounted for. However, it was not immediately clear how many people were inside the home.
Additional information was not immediately available.
