THOMPSON, Conn — A Massachusetts man has been arrested for a head-on dirt bike crash in Thompson that seriously injured him and killed his childhood friend last year.
Brady Bolduc, now 22, of Brookfield, Mass., turned himself in to Connecticut State Police on Thursday for charges related to the crash on Baker Road in December 2023 that took the life of Steven Zografos, 22, of Oxford, Mass.
Bolduc told investigators that he drank beer and smoked marijuana the night before and the same day of the crash without having much to eat in between.
Bolduc and witnesses said that around seven to eight people came to Baker Road at Quaddick State Forest and were doing "burnouts" and "wheelies," which made the area dusty and hard to see, according to the arrest warrant. Bolduc and Zografos' dirt bikes collided head-on while performing wheelies, and both were thrown from their bikes, the investigation revealed.
Drug tests showed that Bolduc had a BAC of 0.08%, which is at the legal limit, and that Zografos also had alcohol and THC in his system, the investigation revealed. Investigators did not say whether they believe the substances contributed to the crash.
"I am childhood friends with Steven, and I had no issues with him prior to the accident," Bolduc told investigators in a written statement.
Bolduc was charged with negligent homicide with vehicle, DUI, illegal operation of vehicle without insurance and operating an unregistered vehicle. He was released on a $40,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in December.
