PLAINFIELD, Connecticut — A woman and a dog were found dead in a Plainfield house fire Sunday evening, the town's police department said Monday.
The Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications Center received a report at 6:19 p.m. about a fire at a one-and-a-half story single family residence on Pinecrest Drive, according to police.
The Atwood Hose Fire Company said they responded with mutual aid from Moosup, Central Village, Mortlake, and the American Legion Ambulance where they found heavy smoke and flames.
After the fire was extinguished, crews found 79-year-old Betty Wood and a small dog dead inside the home, the Atwood Hose Fire Company said.
The Plainfield Fire Marshal's Office and Plainfield Police Department are investigating the fire.
The Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Unit and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner also responded to the scene after the fire was discovered to be fatal, police said.
"Our sincerest condolences go out to the family, friends, and neighbors of the deceased," the Atwood Hose Fire Company said in a Facebook post.
