PLAINFIELD, Connecticut — Plainfield High School and Shepard Hill Elementary School were placed into lockdown on Thursday after officials at the high school contacted police about a student having posted a social media threat involving a gun on school grounds, according to Plainfield police.
Initial reports said the student who sent the social media post was in the school, but he could not be located, police said. Police said they later learned that the gun was believed to be in the student’s vehicle.
Investigators determined that the student left the school grounds in the vehicle, police said, adding that the student and vehicle were later found at a residence in Plainfield. Police said a NAK9 9mm AK Pistol with a foldable stock was found to be in the student’s possession while at the residence.
The student was subsequently arrested; police said he faces the following charges: Criminal possession of a firearm, risk of injury to a minor, threatening and breach of peace.
According to police, the student is a juvenile, and his name cannot be released. The student was referred to Juvenile Court in Willimantic, and police said the department is still investigating the incident.
