When do polls close on Election Day?

A complete guide to poll closing times for every state, as well as how many electoral votes are at stake for each, during the upcoming November election.

WASHINGTON — Election Day 2024 is nearly here, with many Americans set to cast their ballot and go to the polls to determine a number of issues, including who will be our next president.

Millions will have submitted their ballots in advance by the time Election Day arrives on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

States typically begin to report results soon after the polls close, but it may be a while before we know who won the presidential race as it's expected to be incredibly tight and it can take some time to count mail-in ballots in certain states.

Here are the poll closing times for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Remember, as long as you're in line by the time polls close, you can still cast your ballot.

Note that the times are all adjusted in the list for Eastern Time. Some poll closing times may vary by location, be sure to check local guidelines. For states spanning multiple time zones, we've listed the state based on when the majority of locations close.
