Eversource sends crews south to assist with power restoration after Hurricane Helene

Line workers from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire are heading to Virginia, the energy supplier says.

CONNECTICUT, USA — Dozens of Eversource crews are taking a business trip to Virginia to assist fellow energy companies with power restoration efforts after this week’s catastrophic weather, the energy supplier announced.

More than three million customers have lost power following Hurricane Helene, which ravished its way through much of the southeast. Eversource estimates that around 40 line crews from each of the states that the company serves are heading south. These states include Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Twenty support personnel are also packing their gear and trucks and traveling to Virginia to assist support crews from Appalachian Power, Eversource says.

Eversource CEO, Chairman and President Joe Nolan says this is how mutual aid works and that this is what utilities do after a devastating storm.

“We show up for each other in times of need, and I’m proud of our employees who’ve stepped up, and they’ll work tirelessly to get power back for the people impacted by this powerful hurricane,” Nolan said.

“There have been many times we’ve had to bring in resources from other utilities around the country to support our communities in our states after a devastating storm, and now it’s our turn to help our fellow utility companies to the south," he continued.

Nolan assures residents that Eversource will keep the appropriate number of crews in New England to address any local issues that may arise.

Through the industry’s Mutual Aid Network, Eversource says many energy companies impacted by the hurricane have reached out to sister utilities from throughout the United States for extra workers and resources.

Eversource says it is a longstanding member of this network, which works together to restore power as quickly and safely as possible after challenging storms and other emergencies.

According to Eversource, one line crew will be sent from each work center across the three states to equally balance the amount of resources remaining at home.

Crews will be departing their respective states on Sunday around 6 a.m.
