WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. — Seventy veterans took part in Honor Flight Connecticut and traveled to our nation’s capital on Saturday, according to a release from the Connecticut Airport Authority.
The veterans were joined by 50 guardians and Honor Flight staff. They departed from Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks on Saturday morning to begin their journey to Washington D.C.
Honor Flight Connecticut was created to unite military veterans and bring them to Washington D.C. so that they can visit the memorials that represent and celebrate their service. It also gives recognition to the brave men and women who have served in our country’s Armed Forces.
The Connecticut Airport Authority says that the veterans who took part in Saturday’s initiative served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, representing the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.
The Connecticut Airport Authority expressed its gratitude toward the teams at Bradley International Airport and Southwest Airlines for helping bring the Honor Flight Connecticut program to life. Their effort ensures that veterans receive a meaningful send off and journey to Washington D.C.
The veterans who participated in Saturday’s honor flight are expected back in Connecticut by the end of the night.
