HARTFORD, Conn. — Two Connecticut Army National Guard units have officially returned home from the Middle East. Reunions took place at the State Armory in Hartford.
The year-long deployment included work in Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Kuwait.
The units had a lot to do while away. They were involved with resupply missions and aerial medical evacuations, as well as helping senior leaders travel throughout the region.
“It is wonderful, it is great to be back, mostly just with the family and able to take advantage of the time that we have together after quite a long time apart,” said Jonathan Gudjohnsen from the CT Army National Guard.
“It was great. We’re very proud of him obviously and it was a little nerve-racking after October but we’re happy to have him home," said Einar Gudjohnsen, Jonathan's dad.
“We feel it was one of the best things he has done in his life and we’re just so proud of him and now I can sleep," said Jane Gudjohnsen, Jonathan's mom.
Together, these returning units completed more than 150 medical missions and flew more than 3,200 combat flight hours for Operation Inherent Resolve.
