NEW BRITAIN — A lockdown was lifted after a threat was found to be unsubstantiated at Smalley Elementary School in New Britain Wednesday morning.
The school is located at 175 West Street.
Police said, “Today at 8:30 a.m., police responded to 175 West Street, Smalley Elementary School after receiving a 911 call regarding a threat to the school. Officers immediately secured the facility and tracked down the individual who made the call. The caller was a juvenile male who was located and detained. The incident was determined to be a hoax. The juvenile is being handled accordingly. The school was in soft lockdown so students could move around the school but no one in and out.”
There were about a half dozen police cruisers on the scene.
Parents were outside of the building and the superintendent was keeping parents informed throughout via phone messages.
