WEST HAVEN, Conn. — A special election to fill the state representative seat left vacant by the new mayor of West Haven is set for January.
Gov. Ned Lamont announced Friday that the election to fill the vacancy in the 115th Assembly District of the Connecticut House of Representatives will be on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
The seat, which represents a portion of West Haven, became vacant on Dec. 2, when Dorinda Borer resigned after she was elected to serve as the city’s new mayor.
“It has been a privilege to serve as State Representative for the people of West Haven,” Borer wrote in her resignation letter.
The Democratic lawmaker served on the 115th Assembly District since 2017. She beat the Republican mayoral candidate, Barry Lee Cohen, and write-in candidate Steven Mullins on Nov. 7 to become the city’s second female mayor. She earned the highest vote totals for mayors in decades.
Borer, who was sworn in on Dec. 3, succeeded Mayor Nancy Rossi, who did not seek a fourth term in office. She is West Haven’s 13th mayor.
