CONNECTICUT, USA — With Sunday marking the end of Connecticut's early voting period, the state is now looking ahead to Election Day on Tuesday when the ballots will be counted.
According to the Office of the Secretary of the State, town clerks must deliver early voting ballots to the Registrar of Voters between 6-10 a.m. on Election Day.
Registrars will decide a time for ballot counters to start counting, which can be as early as 6 a.m., the SOTS said. The ballots can be counted at either "the central counting location or their respective polling places."
741,501 early votes in Connecticut were cast between Oct. 31 and Nov. 5.
2024 marked the first time that Connecticut voters could participate in early voting in a general election after the state Senate passed a bill in 2023, allowing voters up to 14 days to cast their ballots early.
For the delivery of absentee ballots, town clerks will provide them to the Registrar of Voters between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and at 8 p.m. or other times mutually agreed on, including 6 p.m., the SOTS said. If 6 p.m. is used and there are no more ballots to be delivered, the 8 p.m. delivery will not occur.
If absentee ballots are delivered at various times during the day to the counting locations, counting can occur at any time as decided by the Registrar of Voters, according to the SOTS.
The Secretary of the State will be have Connecticut's election night results data on their website here.
