DERBY, Conn. — Former Derby Alderman and mayoral candidate Gino DiGiovanni Jr. has entered into a plea agreement for his involvement in the January 6 insurrection.
DiGiovanni's attorney, Martin Minnella, confirmed they signed a plea agreement and that DiGiovanni plans to plead guilty to the lowest charge, which is entering/remaining on restricted grounds. He said that this was an "unfortunate situation" and that it was the "best resolution" for all involved to plead guilty to the charge.
That charge states that DiGiovanni knowingly entered and remained inside the U.S. Capitol building and grounds which are considered restricted.
DiGiovanni will appear for arraignment on Jan. 3, 2024.
DiGiovanni and his legal team will appear before a federal judge in their next hearing and will request that it go back to the Magistrate.
