CHICOPEE, Mass. — An AMBER Alert has been canceled for a 3-year-old from Massachusetts who was found in East Windsor, Conn., according to police. The suspect accused of stealing the vehicle the toddler was inside of will face charges in two states.

The ordeal began just before 9 a.m. out of Chicopee, Mass. where a Toyota Camry was stolen with the toddler inside. Massachusetts State Police soon issued an AMBER Alert for the child saying the suspect and vehicle could be heading into Connecticut.

A short time later, the vehicle was found in Windsor inside a parking lot near a Stop & Shop but police said the child and the suspect were not initially found.

The toddler was later found on Bridge Street in East Windsor, canceling the AMBER Alert, Chicopee police said. The toddler was taken to an area hospital for an evaluation, though the child does not appear injured, police said.

Just before 11 a.m., officials said the suspect, identified as Vadim Vorobyov, 52, of Springfield, Mass., was found at the Any Time Fitness on Kennedy Road in Windsor. Massachusetts State Police said an initial investigation indicated that the suspect dropped the child off at the Rodeway Inn in town before driving to the shopping plaza where he left the stolen vehicle. Hotel employees had contacted police.

Vorobyov faces the following charges from Connecticut State Police: Risk of injury to a child, larceny, reckless endangerment and kidnapping.

He is being held on a $2 million bond. He is also expected to be extradited to Massachusetts at a later date to face charges in that state. In the meantime, Vorobyov is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Monday.

This is a developing story.
