STAMFORD, Conn. — The jury in Michelle Troconis’ trial was brought back to science class during testimony regarding DNA testing in the disappearance case of Jennifer Dulos.
Kristen Madel took the stand, explaining her responsibilities at the Connecticut Department of Public Safety Forensic Science Laboratory in Meriden and going over the basics of DNA testing. The beginning of her testimony included going over forensic terminology that may be discussed during her testimony.
Madel was the one who processed Fotis and Troconis’ DNA for the investigation, and “I believed it was a sample that needed to be processed quickly,” she testified.
A DNA profile of Jennifer was made using swab samples collected from her toothbrush.
Madel and her colleagues tested for DNA on the evidence seized from Jennifer's home, garage, and two SUVs and she went over the results with the jury.
Troconis' DNA was eliminated from any possible contact with the evidence tested so far, with the exception of a blood-like stain that matched Jennifer's DNA but came out inconclusive to Fotis and Troconis' DNA profiles.
Fotis' DNA profile was detected on the kitchen sink faucet, along with Jennifer's DNA profile, according to the results Madel read to the court.
Court adjourned early Thursday and is expected to resume Friday.
