STAMFORD, Conn. — The prosecution’s case in the criminal trial of Michelle Troconis resumed Tuesday with testimony regarding one of her interviews with police.
The jury completed viewing the hours-long third interview Troconis had with investigators searching for New Canaan mom Jennifer Dulos, who went missing in May 2019.
In the video, investigators grilled Troconis on where she and Fotis Dulos, Jennifer’s estranged husband and Troconis’ one-time boyfriend, were on the day of Jennifer’s disappearance and in the days after.
“I'm trying to understand why you told us information that was false and did so on purpose,” an investigator asked Troconis, referring to the two previous interrogations conducted with her.
“Because, obviously, Fotis wrote that and he said ‘You have to say that,’” Troconis replied in regard to written timelines she and Fotis prepared.
The interrogation video shows Troconis explaining to investigators that on the night Jennifer went missing, she kept asking Fotis if there was anyone they could call to help find Jennifer.
“I did ask [Fotis] – ‘where can she be, can we call someone?’” Troconis told investigators. She said Fotis replied, “’No no no, we don’t have anyone in common. I don’t have any contact with her friends or her family.’”
Troconis continued, “So he was determined, like, not going to call them...I would have done the opposite.”
Troconis told interviewers she continued asking Fotis if he knew anything about Jennifer’s whereabouts.
“He was the one telling me it was going to be OK,” Troconis told investigators.
Many of the answers Troconis gave in the third interview were different than the first two, Retired State Police Det. John Kimball previously testified.
"With all this evidence and everything, yes, of course, Fotis is involved," Troconis said to investigators. "But if I see something, no. If I knew, no. He made me do things, then yes. It was really part of its plan, and I failed because I was helping him out."
"He set me up because he used me," Troconis later added.
Kent Mawhinney, who was Fotis' divorce attorney and is also facing charges in connection to Jennifer's disappearance, was mentioned several times in the video interview and witness testimony.
The prosecution plans to call one more witness Wednesday and then rest its case. Then, the defense will have a chance to call witnesses to the stand.
