WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — There is a game plan on the court and a game plan off the court at the University of Saint Joseph and both plans are part of the Basketball Capital Pro-Am Tournament which will return this summer to Jim Calhoun Court on campus.
The Basketball Capital Pro-Am attracts hoopsters from across the area to do battle in high level competition, but this year, Hartford Healthcare and The American Heart Association are joining the team. While games happen on the court, off the court Hartford Healthcare is introducing its “Mobile Hands-Only CPR Kiosk”.
At a press conference, Jeff Flaks, the CEO of Hartford Healthcare said of the new Kiosk, “We are among the first in the country who have this kiosk, so when (fans) come for this amazing entertainment, they’re going to get trained, its going to be tremendous and it’s going to save lives.”
Dr. James Cardon, a cardiologist at Hartford Healthcare and the chief integration officer, added that watching games at USJ this summer could be a game changer.
“There will be the ability to go over and learn and practice your (CPR) technique here while these games are going on through the summer," Cardon said.
Hall of Fame Basketball Coach Jim Calhoun, a former head coach at St. Joseph's, was also part of the festivities to introduce the new CPR Kiosk to the public. Calhoun said the technology coupled with great basketball games are a win-win.
“It’s a great idea to get these kids off the streets during the summer into a healthy place where they can play basketball and be with each other… and learn CPR," Calhoun said.
