STORRS, Conn. — Kaitlyn Chen, the 2023 Ivy League Player of the Year, has signed with UConn Women’s Basketball for the 2024-2025 season.

The 5-foot-9 point guard from San Marino, Calif. played three seasons for the Princeton University Tigers. Her freshman season in 2020-2021 was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Ivy League rules prohibit graduates from participating in athletics.

In 2023, Chen scored 16.2 points and grabbed 4.1 rebounds per game as a junior en route to being named the conference player of the year. Last season, Chen averaged 15.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game as a senior.

In both 2023 and 2024, Chen was named as a First Team All-Ivy selection. As a senior, she was selected as a 2024 WBCA Honorable Mention All-American.

Chen announced her commitment to UConn last Sunday on Instagram.

“I picked UConn because of the environment,” Chen said, in a release from the UConn Division of Athletics on Wednesday. “The coaches and players made me feel extremely welcome. I am super excited about this upcoming year. I believe this place will push me to become a better version of myself both on and off the court.”

During her career at Princeton, Chen scored 1,276 points, secured 313 rebounds, and dished out 359 assists. She ranks third in school history in assists and 12th in points, according to the UConn Division of Athletics.

Chen helped lead Princeton to three Ivy League regular season championships, three Ivy League Tournament championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances. She was the Ivy League Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player for all three titles.

According to the UConn Division of Athletics, Chen was a 2024 Academic All-Ivy selection and a CSC Second Team Academic All-American. As a Tiger, she played under head coach Carla Berube, a 1997 UConn graduate who played on UConn’s undefeated 1995 national championship team.

Chen will graduate from Princeton this month with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology.

At UConn, she will help fill the void left behind by guard Nika Muhl and join 2021 National Player of the Year and 2024 First Team All-American Paige Bueckers, rising sophomore KK Arnold and redshirt junior Azzi Fudd in the backcourt.
