FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Sacred Heart University men's and women's basketball teams kicked off their seasons in the newly-renovated William H. Pitt Athletics & Convocation Center with exciting home-opening victories.
The men's team defeated Central Connecticut State University 67-54, while the women’s team beat Monmouth University 63-56 in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
The 2,000-seat multipurpose venue, located at the heart of campus, underwent a comprehensive upgrade. It now features an 80-foot jumbotron, video boards and improved seating that brings fans closer to the action. The redesign enhances the fan experience and creates a dynamic environment for both student-athletes and spectators.
Before the games, SHU Athletics hosted a fan fest with games, food and local business partnerships. The evening culminated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by key staff and President John Petillo, who praised the facility’s role in SHU’s growing athletic program.
“The energy tonight is something special, and we’re excited for the future of SHU athletics,” said Judy Ann Riccio, SHU’s director of athletics,
With their new home, both the men’s and women’s teams excelled in the revamped Pitt Center, setting the stage for future success in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
