CROMWELL, Conn — The Travelers Championship typically comes right around the first official day of summer.
With that, can come big swings in our weather, as summer heat begins to build north.
In recent years, the weather has been mostly favorable, though there have been some ups and downs with rain or heat.
This year, early signs are for big heat for at least beginning of play. It's unclear whether that heat will last through the weekend.
Looking back at the weather conditions over the last ten years, there are some highlights:
- 2014 opened with some rain during the first round, but the following three days were dry and comfortable with seasonable temperatures and low humidity.
- 2015's final round was wet, with nearly a half inch of rain. Bubba Watson took the title.
- Play was pushed back to August in 2016 due to the Olympics. All three rounds featured high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s, with it being later in the summer.
- 2017 featured some rain during the third round. The other days were mostly dry.
- 2018 brought one of the coolest days in recent years, with a high temperature of 65 during the third round.
- Damp, muggy weather for the first two rounds in 2019 was followed by dry and comfortable conditions for the weekend.
- 2020's tournament included nearly an inch of rain that fell during the weekend.
- 2021 was mainly dry and comfortable to start, though it turned warmer and more humid for the final round, with temperatures in the mid 80s.
- The high temperature hit 90 degrees during the third round in 2022, the hottest of the rounds in the last ten years.
- More than a half-inch of rain on Saturday in 2023 resulted in adjusted tee times for the third round.
