Wolf Pack edge past Bruins 4-3 in Game 1 of the Atlantic Division Semifinals

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Hartford Wolf Pack’s magical run through the American Hockey League’s 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs continued Wednesday night, as the team scored a road victory by defeating the Providence Bruins 4-3 in Game 1 of the Atlantic Division Semifinals.

Right wing Tyler Pitlick registered three points for the Wolf Pack as they secured the win on the road in Providence at Amica Mutual Pavilion.

According to a postgame release from the team, the Wolf Pack struck four times on the five-on-five without the benefit of a power play goal.

Wolf Pack forward Jake Leshyshyn struck first, scoring a goal 1:07 into the game. It was his first goal of the Calder Cup Playoffs and Hartford’s first shot of the game.

Matthew Robertson, a Wolf Pack defenseman, earned an assist on the play, marking the first point of his Calder Cup Playoff career.

Less than five minutes later, Hartford scored again, as defenseman Blake Hillman registered his first goal of the postseason.

The Bruins, Boston’s minor league affiliate, tied the game 2-2 in the second period, scoring multiple goals in less than eight minutes. Both Providence goals were recorded by forward Jimmy Lambert.

With 33.5 seconds remaining in the second period, the Wolf Pack snatched back the lead on a goal by forward Tyler Pitlick, his first of the playoffs coming off a deflection from Hartford defenseman Victor Mancini.

Wolf Pack forward Anton Blidh scored 88 seconds into the third period off a feed from Leshyshyn to make the score 4-2. Pitlick also collected an assist on the goal, completing his three-point evening.

Providence would score once more in the third period, but it was not enough, as Wolf Pack goalie Dylan Garand didn’t let another shot go through the net.

The Wolf Pack, the minor league affiliate of the New York Rangers, will try to take a 2-0 series lead in Providence on Friday at 7:05 p.m. before returning to the XL Center for Game 3 at 7 p.m. on May 8. If necessary, Game 4 will occur at the XL Center at 7 p.m. on May 10.

A winner-take-all Game 5 to advance to the next round would take place if necessary in Providence on May 12 at 3:05 p.m.
