PROVIDENCE, R.I. — No. 8 Quinnipiac Men’s Hockey (27-9-2) advanced past No. 9 Wisconsin (26-12-2) on Friday evening in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament in Providence.
Sophomore forward Victor Czerneckianair, of Southington, sent Bobcats fans at Amica Mutual Pavilion into a frenzy when he scored the game-winning goal 11:04 into overtime. Quinnipiac won 3-2.
Czerneckianair’s game-winning goal was assisted on by senior forward Travis Treloar and junior defenseman Davis Pennington. Czerneckianair also tied the game with a goal scored with 1:32 left in the second period.
Christophe Fillion, a junior forward, scored Quinnipiac’s first goal of the match.
Next up for Quinnipiac, the reigning national champion, is No. 1 Boston College (32-5-1) in the regional final, which defeated Michigan Tech 6-1. The two teams will play on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at 4 p.m. on ESPNU for a trip to the Frozen Four, college hockey’s biggest stage, in St. Paul, Minn., April 11-13.
The Bobcats have now won five straight NCAA Tournament games. The streak includes four consecutive victories over Big Ten schools, according to the team’s website.
