Former Yankees shortstop named new manager of Hartford Yard Goats

Former Yankees infielder Bobby Meacham will serve as the fifth manager in the team's history.

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hartford Yard Goats will have a new manager herding the team at Dunkin' Park for the upcoming 2024 season.

Former New York Yankees shortstop Bobby Meacham will serve as the fifth manager in the team's history.

Meacham moves from the Colorado Rockies' Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes, where he served as the team's bench coach in 2023.

He will be joined by fellow coaches Dan Meyer, who will serve as the pitching coach for the Yard Goats; Zach Osborne, a former Yard Goats player who will serve as hitting coach; and Luis Lopez, who returns as bench coach for the Yard Goats.

“We welcome Bobby to Hartford and look forward to working with him as well as Dan, Zach, and Luis,” Yard Goats General Manager Mike Abramson said. “Many of our fans remember Bobby as a player and coach for the New York Yankees, and it will be exciting to watch him lead our club, and have him as part of the Hartford community.”

Former Yard Goats manager Chris Denorfia, who led the club for the last three seasons, was promoted to a position with the Colorado Rockies. The Connecticut native will serve as outfield and base running coordinator for the Rockies.

The Yard Goats will formally introduce Meacham as their new manager in a press conference at Dunkin' Park in Hartford on Wednesday' February 7, at 12:30 p.m.

Meacham, 63, is known for his time playing shortstop for the New York Yankees from 1983-1988. He has previous coaching experience across all levels of baseball, including time spent on the MLB level with the Florida Marlins, the San Diego Padres, the New York Yankees, the Houston Astros, and most recently, the Philadelphia Phillies.

From 2014-2016, Meacham served as manager of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, and division rival of the Hartford Yard Goats in the Eastern League.

The Hartford Yard Goats begin their 2024 season on Friday, April 5, when they take on the Portland Sea Dogs on the road. Their home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, against the Bowie Baysox.

Single-game tickets for all Yard Goats home games go on sale beginning Friday, February 9, at 10 a.m. Tickets are available online on the Yard Goats website, over the phone, or in person at the box office at Dunkin' Park.
