CONNECTICUT, USA — A massive collaboration between McDonald’s owners and operators across New England resulted in the donation of more than $40,000 to support athletic programs in the six region’s six states.
Local McDonald’s restaurants in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont came together on Oct. 10 to donate 20% of their app sales during a six-hour period to support a variety of youth sports programs.
In its inaugural year, the one-day event made a significant difference in the lives of countless young athletes. The financial boost provided to many local sports programs will benefit children and teens on the field, court, rink and track by covering the costs of essential needs.
Scott Facey, the owner and operator of the McDonald’s that was Connecticut’s top fundraiser, said it was beyond inspiring to witness residents throughout the state rally behind the cause. In a release, he said he is deeply grateful to be part of an initiative that strengthens the region’s local communities.
“At McDonald’s, being a community partner means more than serving great food – it’s about making a real difference in our neighborhoods,” Facey said. “Seeing our restaurants across Connecticut come together with our guests to invest in youth sports programs shows the incredible impact we can have when we work together.”
The initiative was sponsored by local owners and operators and aligns with McDonald’s tradition of providing meaningful support to people in the communities its restaurants are located in.
According to the release, New England operators consistently contribute to numerous give-back programs such as Round-Up for Ronald McDonald House Charities and Archways to Opportunity for employee tuition assistance. More than $1 million has been donated to RMHC and over $800,000 in tuition dollars has gone to employees so far this year.
