Husky nation hyped for UConn basketball, students gear up for March Madness

Husky fans are hoping to see both teams take home the championship trophy this year.

STORRS, Conn. — The UConn basketball teams are back in the NCAA tournament and Husky nation is hyped.

Both the men's basketball program and the women's program secured seeds in the March Madness bracket.

The men's team secured the No. 1 seed in the East Region and the women landed as the No. 3 seed in the Portland Region.

It's the first time in school history the men's team has earned a No. 1 seed.

Spring break is over, but UConn students are returning to campus with a lot to look forward to.

"You can definitely feel even being on campus everyone is so hyped for the game or just March in general. It’s so amazing being a part of the school spirit here," said junior Emma Beck.

Students said March is the best time of the year. Fans are ready to support both teams like they have been all season.

"The support for both teams is awesome; everyone loves both men's and women's teams. I know people were in New York for the Big East Tournament!" said Gabriella Cooper, a senior on campus.

There are high hopes this year on the court for both teams, especially with the men trying to defend their national title.

"It’s always just really exciting especially last year winning the championship people line up the whole day before just to go to Gampel," said Anna Picard, a senior.

The tournament kicks off this weekend for the Huskies. The men play on Friday in Brooklyn against Stetson and the women play on Saturday in Gampel against Jackson State.
