STORRS, Conn. — UConn women's basketball player Ayanna Patterson will not play for the rest of the 2023-2024 season, the athletic department announced Friday.
She had surgery on her left knee at UConn Health on Thursday and will need time to recover.
Head Coach Geno Auriemma said Patterson has been dealing with knee pain, specifically patellar tendonitis, since high school.
"She’s been rehabbing and undergoing treatments and decided with our medical staff that it was time to take care of the issue," Auriemma said in a statement. "We’ll support Yanna through her rehab process and we anticipate she’ll make a full recovery. We look forward to having her back with the team on the court."
Patterson has not appeared in a game this season, the athletic department said. She appeared in 30 games as a freshman last season, and averaged 2.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
A knee injury also took teammate Azzi Fudd off the court for the remainder of the season. Last month, Fudd injured her right knee during a practice.
