UConn Women's Basketball looks to start season on high note with Bueckers back from injury

The Huskies are ranked number two in the country in a pre-season poll.

STORRS, Conn. — This week is all about the UConn Huskies hoop.

The men's basketball team opened their season earlier this week and Wednesday night, it's the women's turn.

Fans have high hopes for the Huskies this year with some key players returning from injuries.

All eyes are on Paige Bueckers, who is back on the court after missing all of last season with a knee injury.

Bueckers also missed most of her freshman season with a separate knee injury. But now, she's back in the line-up and is healthy, alongside other returning key players, Azzi Fudd, Nika Muhl, Aaliyah Edwards, and Ice Brady.

The Huskies are ranked number two in the country in a pre-season poll.

The goal is to take that number two ranking and turn it to number one, hopefully wining a 12th National Championship this season.

Last year UConn's streak of 14 consecutive Final Four appearances was broken. The Huskies were knocked out of the tournament in the Sweet Sixteen.

Students on campus are excited for the start of another season and are confident the UConn Women have everything they need to make a championship run.

"I think we’re looking really good this season, we’re ranked number two in the country right now, I think we can bump that up to one and make the Final Four so I’m really excited to see what we bring tonight as it’s the first official game of the season," said sophomore, Kelsey Stewart.

"It’s awesome, it’s so exciting. I’m a big basketball fan so coming here was really cool," said sophomore, Jonathan Kidd.

The Huskies take on Dayton at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at the XL Center.
