STORRS, Conn. — The thrill of No. 12 UConn's seventh straight victory after defeating No. 24 Creighton quickly disappeared with the news of Aubrey Griffin's injury.

Griffin exited that game early in the third quarter, having to be helped off the floor. She did not return. The injury was a non-contract injury, something the Huskies are all too familiar with.

"Apparently she went to put her foot down and her foot turned in," UConn Women's Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma recalled. "There wasn't anybody around her, there wasn't any contact, she was still on the floor. It wasn't like she jumped. The team doctor for Creighton came out and he pretty much said that the knee is very unstable. I guess we'll know more when we do the tests."

Griffin has been on the UConn Women's Basketball roster longer than any other current player, returning for a fifth year this season. She sat out her junior year in 2021 when she received back surgery.

Griffin was averaging 9.5 points and six rebounds per game, shooting 54.7% from the field.

"Aubrey has had to overcome a lot," Auriemma added. "She had one of these in high school. You are just heartbroken for a kid when it's their last year and something like this happens. The basketball part is actually secondary. Right now we're in a bad cycle and I think the kids are just gutted out by all of this."

The Huskies have already lost Azzi Fudd for the season due to a knee injury and Ayanna Paterson for the season due to a knee injury.
