BROOKLYN, N.Y. — UConn's Aaliyah Edwards and Nika Mühl were selected for their new professional teams in Monday night's WNBA draft in Brooklyn, N.Y.
UConn center Edwards was selected as the No. 6 overall pick by the Washington Mystics, becoming the 27th first-round selection in the league's history. Mühl was picked number 14 overall byr the Seattle Storm, becoming the university's 15th second-round selection in the draft.
Senior forward Edwards is the sixth player in UConn history with 1,800 points and 1,000 rebounds, 15th in career points, eighth in career rebounds, and sixth in career double-doubles. She was picked as a 2024 WCBA All-American and All-Big East, as well as the 2023 Big East Most Improved Player and 2021 Big East Sixth-Woman of the Year, according to the university.
Senior point guard Mühl is the UConn record holder for all-time career assists at 686, single-season assists at 284 in the 2022-2023 season, single-game assists with 15 versus North Carolina State on Nov. 20, 2022, and most double-digit assist games by a Husky with 17.
Mühl was named two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year, as well as two-time AP Honorable Mention All-American and All-Big East Second Team.
Both Edwards and Mühl helped lead UConn to the Final Four three times, along with a game in the National Championship and eight Big East championships, the university said.
