MANCHESTER, Conn. — The tradition of the Manchester Road Race press conference continued at the Manchester Country Club Thursday.
Race leaders, sponsors and volunteers of the event gathered to get in gear for the 88th edition of the competition.
Tris Carta, race president, said registration for the race this year looks promising.
“I might be bold to say that we might break 12,000 [runners], which is up to pre-pandemic levels,” Carta said.
The 2024 honorary chairman of the Manchester Road Race is Mark Carroll, a world class runner from Ireland who won the race in both 1998 and 2000. Carroll was a standout runner at Providence College. This year he will also lend his expertise on the radio call of the race.
“I associate the Manchester Road Race with Thanksgiving – everybody coming together with family and friends reuniting and the energy on the racecourse is second to none,” Carroll said. “I’m just delighted to be back and be part of it.”
Rick Dyer, the press information officer for the Road Race, said, “Thanksgiving Day in Manchester really is one of the best sporting events in America...It’s like Mardi Gras and the Olympics combined!”
Registration for the 2024 Manchester Road Race will stay open until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
