STORRS, Conn. — UConn women's basketball players Paige Bueckers, junior guard, and Aaliyah Edwards, senior forward, were picked for the Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Midseason Team on Tuesday.
The Naismith Trophy, which is "presented annually to the most outstanding men's and women's basketball player who achieves tremendous on-court success," according to the description on the award website, was previously given to Bueckers in 2021.
Bueckers is leading in the UConn women's team with 20 points in 15 games this season. She also has the most amount of "steals (56) and blocks (28)" and is "second in assists (95)," UConn Athletics said.
Edwards has an average career-high of 17.8 points per game, with a team-high of 9 rebounds per game and a 60.3 field goal percentage, according to UConn Athletics. She had 12 double-doubles this past season, five of which were in her last game, and has scored double digits in 23 games.
Edwards scored over 20 points in nine games, UConn Athletics said.
According to UConn Athletics, Bueckers is averaging "22.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 2.8 steals per game" against the top 25 teams of the season, while Edwards averages 17.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

UConn women's next game will be against Xavier on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
