All-inclusive robotics team heading to Houston for world competition

The “Armored Artemises” continue to spread the message of STEM learning.

GLASTONBURY, Conn. — They are an all-inclusive robotics team eight members strong and, once again, they are headed to the World competition in Houston.

The team known as the “Armored Artemises” are made up of team members from eighth grade to 11th grade – all from the Glastonbury area.

The team began creating their robot back in September and, since then, went on to win competitions that got them a berth to travel to Houston for the World Championships.

Bee Becher, a team founder, and a junior at Glastonbury High School said her team is unique.

"STEM is for everyone which is why our team recently transitioned to a "Gender Minorities Team". We used to be all girls, however, we found that it was important to promote STEM for everyone -- not just girls but transgender and non-binary youth," she said.

This year, the Armored Artemises, have a robot that is proficient in lifting hoops and placing them on cones – part of what is required for the competition.

"Our team mission is to inspire younger kids to do STEM," Team member Anya Mishra added.

"They are definitely starting to make STEM more accessible for the minorities who typically haven’t had a chance to participate… that’s – that’s really powerful," The coach and team mom, Prasanthi Lingamallu said.

The team will compete in Houston from April 17th through April 22.

The team continues to search for sponsors to support their efforts and they have a GoFundMe page with more information, to find out more click here.
