Back on September 15, SpaceX launched four civilians to orbit for a three-day trip around the Earth named Inspiration4. Now that they’re safely back on land, they are sharing glimpses of what the experience was like up there.
Jared Isaacman, Sian Proctor, Haley Arceneaux, and Chris Sembroski floated around in the SpaceX Dragon capsule at an altitude of 357 miles above Earth, becoming the first all-civilian crew in history.
Proctor shared a video on Twitter of the first time they opened the SpaceX cupola.
Their expressions showed awe as they opened the hatch door to the “Cupola”, the large bubble-shaped window at the top of the Dragon spacecraft that allowed them to take in the full view. That cupola made history as the largest continuous window in space.
The International Space Station has a cupola of its own, but it is made up of seven window sections connected by forged aluminum and steel.
More importantly, the mission raised more than 200 million dollars for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, with the first $100 million pitched in by Isaacman and an additional $50 million from SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Click here to donate!
