BERLIN, Conn. — Eversource is preparing its equipment and crews for the high winds and heavy rain expected to hit Connecticut Friday night into Saturday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby converge on the northeast.
According to a release from the energy company on Thursday, Eversource is studying multiple weather forecast models and strategizing for probable severe weather. Ahead of the storm, Eversource is bringing in outside line workers to help restore power when called upon.
Crews are also pre-positioning equipment and vehicles so they can respond quickly wherever they are needed.
“The line of storms expected to come through the state Friday is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds, which can bring down trees and tree limbs onto electric lines and equipment causing power outages,” Eversource President of Electric Operations in Connecticut Steve Sullivan said in the release.
Sullivan added that Eversource is taking “all the necessary actions now to prepare.”
He said the energy provider will have crews in position at its work centers throughout the state before the storm arrives so that they can make their way to damaged locations and restore power in an expedient, efficient and safe manner.
The release said customers are encouraged to prepare for the storm by assembling or restocking a storm kit, which should include essentials such as flashlights, batteries, water, non-perishable foods, necessary medications, pet food and other important supplies.

“In addition, make sure cell phones and devices are fully charged, review or create an emergency plan with family members and prepare to check on elderly neighbors and friends,” the release said.
Eversource also reminded customers not to go near downed wires; keep pets away from them as well. Report downed wires immediately to 911, the release said.
One can report an outage to Eversource by clicking here or by calling 800-286-2000. Customers who are signed up for Eversource’s two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates in real time.
