DANBURY, Conn. — Researchers at Western Connecticut State University are in need of local backyards this summer for their latest research project on ticks.
WestConn researchers are trying to determine how well tick control is helping reduce the tick population in people's yards in "Project ITCH - Is Tick Control Helping?"
Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y. residents using tick control methods in their yards or none at all are being asked to consider being part of the project.
Researchers would visit the yard two to four times for a half-hour at a time between late May and June and collect ticks from parts of the yard. These ticks will be identified, and some of them will be tested for disease-causing germs. By participating, it will help researchers improve future tickborne disease prevention efforts in the northeast, according to researchers.
