Pedestrian was lying down when fatally hit by car on I-84 in Vernon: State police

The Eastbound side between 64 and 66 was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash.

VERNON, Conn. — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car on Interstate 84 in Vernon early Saturday, according to state police.

State police were called to the scene on I-84 East near Exit 85 around 5:10 a.m. Saturday. The car hit the pedestrian, who was lying down in the travel lane, police said.  Police don't know why the victim was lying down on the highway.

The victim, identified as John Kaszowski, 65, of Manchester, died from his injuries, according to police.

The Eastbound side between 64 and 66 was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash. The area has since reopened to traffic, according to Connecticut Dept. of Transportation.
