SOUTHBURY, Conn. — Connecticut State Police are investigating a fatal accident where a New York man was struck by a car on I-84 westbound in Southbury Thursday evening.
State police say just before 5 p.m. troopers were called to exit 16 on I-84 for a report of a motor vehicle accident that resulted in fatal injuries.
The intersection was closed between exits 16 and 17 but has since been reopened. The State Police-Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad assisted in the investigation.
An accident summary provided by State Police says that a Subaru being driven by Ronald Shaw of Holmes, NY had been traveling west on I-84 when, for some reason, the car went off the roadway onto the grass-lined median area. Shaw then got out of the car and walked out onto the highway, where he was struck by a car driven by a West Hartford woman while he was crossing the highway.
Southbury EMS responded to the scene, but Shaw was pronounced deceased on the scene.
