WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. — Many families are preparing for gatherings and masses on Easter Sunday and with the start of Passover also on Friday night, it's a busy weekend for Bradley International Airport.
There were long lines throughout the airport Friday morning and tons of travelers boarded early morning flights ahead of the holidays.
"We’re traveling to Houston, Texas. It’s for Easter, it’s for spring," said Elijah Martello of Watertown.
"Hopefully everything goes off without a hitch, there’s always the unknown during these times and safety is certainly a priority for all of us," said Chuck Valentine of Glastonbury.
Safety is something health officials are asking people to keep in mind this weekend, to remember basic COVID protocols like staying home if someone is feeling sick and taking a test to meet up with family.
While COVID cases remain low in Connecticut, some cities are seeing a rise in cases ahead of the Easter and Passover holidays, like Philadelphia seeing a 50% increase in cases.
The mask mandate on public transportation has been extended by the CDC until at least May 3. All airports will be enforcing the mask extension, which could be lifted on that date or could be extended again.
Flight delays and cancellations were not an issue at Bradley Airport on Friday morning after there had been many over the past few weeks.
"It is on my mind. We’re just hoping to get lucky," said Maxine Martello of Watertown. "I’m keeping my fingers crossed,"
