GLASTONBURY, Conn. — Tuesday’s CT Bucket List tour, takes a swing, literally... at tennis!
FOX61s Margaux Farrell and Keith McGilvery to the Glastonbury Tennis Club to give it a go.
“It’s been a staple in the community for decades,” said Danielle Trubia, Director of Operations at the Greenwich Tennis Club.
“The Glastonbury Tennis Club has been around for over 40 years,” said Trubia. “Basically, we are a tennis and a pickle ball center, open for all ages and abilities.”
The club is now under new ownership, and the staff is hoping to expand and offer new options for clients, but those are a secret for now!
Trubia says she mostly excited for people to be able to come together for a good sweat.
“The social aspect is number 1 for me, it’s fun, you have something to look forward to, and friends,” said Trubia. “Especially now coming out of the pandemic.”
Danielle says it is easy to get overwhelmed when you first start but it doesn’t take long to get the hang of it.
“Don’t rush through it,” said Trubia. “It’s like living through a home renovation, it’s going to get nasty and messy but then the pieces are going to come together, and then you’re going to see the beauty of it.”
And if tennis isn’t for you, there’s pickle ball too.
“As you get older, your knees get a little cranky and all that and pickle ball, is a a smaller court,” said Ken Brown from Tolland. “It’s a lot easier on the legs.”
Here at GTC, whether it’s tennis or pickle ball, it’s all about sharing the fun of these sports with others.
“It’s a really home town community feel,” said Trubia. “You’re walking into a place that feels like you’re going home.”
So, grab a racquet, take it slow, and give it a go!
