CONNECTICUT, USA — With winter gone and trees and flowers blooming, there's more to see and do in Connecticut this Spring! Follow FOX61's Keith McGilvery and Rachel Piscitelli as they head to five spots this week to highlight the best this state has to offer!
Bushnell Park
Bushnell Park in Hartford offers 37-acres of green in the capital city for residents and visitors to enjoy. When Hartford was in need of open public spaces in 1854, Reverend Horace Bushnell recruited Swiss-born landscape architect Jacob Weidenmann to design the park.
Today, more than 1 million people visit the park year-round. Bushnell Park offers a performance stage, the historic Carousel, and the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch. More information here.
Shops at Riverton
Enjoy this historic adventure through the Riverton section of Barkhamsted! There are various merchant shops to explore, as well as some tasty spots to stop for a meal! Riverton also has some fun outdoor adventures to check out, including hiking, fishing, biking, and more!
Ray of Light Farm
A visit to this farm in East Haddam is more than just a fun day out! It's an animal rescue and therapy center. The farm says it aspires to be a "healing presence in a wounded world." It also offers birthday parties for kids, pop-ups, goat and sheep feedings, and more! They also host a gold fundraiser called Par Fore the Horse in June.
Mohegan Sun
This place needs no introduction! Owned and operated by the Mohegan Sun, it's one of the country's largest and most spectacular entertainment, gaming, dining, and shopping destinations! This compass is situated on 185 acres along the Thames River in scenic Uncasville, in the southeastern part of this state. It houses two casinos, 1,600 deluxe hotel rooms, two world-class spas, a gold course, over 70 shops, restaurants, and bars! It also has triple-award-winning entertainment venues. It's also located within 15 minutes from museums, antique shops, and the waterfront of Mystic.
Peabody Museum
Keith and Rachel's first stop is at the Yale Peabody Museum in New Haven! The Yale Peabody is one of America's most historic museums and was recently renovated and "reimagined for the 21st century." This museum is a dynamic center of participatory learning that showcases paradigm-shifting research and exhibitions that bring audiences face-to-face with the ever-changing story of life on our planet!
