BURLINGTON, Conn — A family tradition continues in Burlington and it centers around its sweet cider.
“1912 is when we started making cider here,” said Chet Dunlop – a golf pro turned cider maker who is at the helm of Hogan’s Cider Mill.
For Dunlop and his family, the 2022 season has been fruitful, to say the least. The word has gotten out about Hogan's and its array of apple cider products.
“I’ve been looking at license plates and we haven’t had Hawaii but I’m almost sure we’ve had every other license plate there is,” Dunlop said. “It makes you feel good to see that.”
Dunlop’s daughter Margaret Borla has added her flair to the mix, coming up with all sorts of hard cider options including the now Instagram-famous “Drunken Donut”.
The Drunken Donut combines house-made sweet cider with hard cider and is then topped with a fresh cider donut and whipped cream. It has kept the crowds coming.
“People have been coming from all over and everyone in town is wondering what the heck is going on at Hogan's,” Borla laughed.
Hogan's, which sits on 20 acres in Burlington offers three bars and an 18-hole miniature golf course.
“It’s a great family-friendly place to hang out and sample our ciders,” Borla said. “There’s really nothing like fall in New England with a cold glass of cider in your hand.”
