CONNECTICUT, USA — Whether it's cruising the roads, soaring the sky, or chugging along on the rails, this holiday season experts say the time is now to start to get plans in place.
There is expected to be an influx in drivers and a bit more air traffic too. AAA recommends travelers start planning now and booking any last-minute flights, hotels, and rental cars as soon as possible.
“They need to keep their dates flexible, weigh their options, whether they’re going to be flying or driving, and as far as rental cars go, we are still seeing a shortage across the country I would suggest booking the rental car first,” said Tracy Noble, spokesperson for AAA.
It's best to book as early as possible to ensure availability too.
High demand equals higher prices and Flight Specialist Willis Orlando from Scotts Cheap Flights explained more planes have been added to accommodate.
“Airlines anticipated a lot of demand early and they added a lot of planes back in the sky after pulling them out in 2020,” Orlando said.
However, with winter holidays some of the busiest and most expensive times to fly, the advice is to start looking early for domestic flights. Three months out and no later than one month out.
So you may be looking at higher prices and sold-out flights if you’ve waited until now.
“One, be prepared – be vigilant, more is more. Look up the regulations for wherever you’re going and keep tabs both on your destination and on your airlines and with your schedule," Orlando said. "They’re adjusting schedules all the time right now and they may not be great at letting you know so it’s a really good idea to check in and check your itinerary."
