NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Starting today, Metro-North will be cracking down on riders who don’t wear a mask while heading into New York.
Riders who refuse to wear one will be fined $50.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) said there is no state fine for Connecticut at this time should you not comply with mask-wearing.
But New York is taking a stricter approach.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), which is the parent company for Metro-North, did a surgery that showed 90% of riders did wear a mask. However, New York wants to make the compliance percentage a number higher.
They want every rider to their part to keep others safe and for people to feel comfortable coming back and using public transportation.
