COVENTRY, Conn. — Drought conditions continue to impact the state, especially businesses that rely on the benefits of the rain.
In the eastern part of the state, extreme drought conditions are leaving landscaping crews high and dry.
"We have about a hundred lawns we take care of on a regular basis, but because of the drought, lawns have gone dormant, and we’re not mowing as much," said Rick Brosseau, owner of Milrick Lawn Service.
The drought means their mowing crews wait to watch grass grow.
Brosseau said mowing jobs are down around 30% because of the lack of rain, leaving a big drop in revenue.
"The mowing aspect is a residual income that you always count on. Last year, we were busy mowing every week because of the rain," said Brosseau.
With the drought conditions, leaves are already starting to fall across the state, which will impact how long and bright the fall foliage is.
"Normally we don’t see leaves falling this early. I mean, there’s some in August and early September [but] normally we don’t see them in the full swing of dropping until mid to late October," said Brosseau.
While the fall colors might not be as vibrant, to keep the colors of your lawn looking green instead of brown, let the burnt grass rest.
A few inches of rain could do wonders for lawns and business.
"Let the lawns get taller and greener," said Brosseau. "Mow less, mow high and with your spare time enjoy doing other things."
