HARTFORD, Conn. — A mix of rain, snow, and wind brought threats of flooding and power outages across parts of Connecticut on Monday. The storm was part of a system that killed six people in Tennessee, where tornadoes toppled houses and tens of thousands of people lost power.
Between 1.5 to 4 inches of rain fell across Connecticut overnight, however, some towns saw close to 5 inches overnight. In some parts of the state with higher elevations, the rain briefly turned to snow.
The strong winds left thousands of residents without power on Monday.
The Connecticut State Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security said river and stream flooding will be a concern for the next few days.
The storm was fast-moving; however, meteorologists expect it to remain windy throughout Monday. This might help dry out the roads ahead of a cold night.
The forecast turns quiet for Tuesday, and a small disturbance could bring some flurries later Wednesday.
Elsewhere in New England, winter storm warnings were issued by the National Weather Service through the evening. The weather service said snowfall rates of an inch an hour were possible across Vermont and northern New York.
Many schools were closed in Vermont on Monday.
A mix of rain and snow was falling in New Hampshire and some roads had minor flooding in Maine.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
