CONNECTICUT, USA — With the impending winter storm, Governor Ned Lamont provided updates on how Connecticut is responding.
Lamont said state offices are closed tomorrow for non-essential workers. A tractor-trailer ban was issued for 9 PM Wednesday night and 9 AM Thursday for all Connecticut highways. A travel advisory has also been issued for other vehicles. According to CT's Department of Transportation, New York State has also issued a travel ban for empty and tandem tractor trailers for multiple highways including I-84, I-95, and I-287.
Lamont also said he has activated the state's Severe Cold Weather Protocol will go into effect Wednesday afternoon. This means state agencies and municipalities will coordinate with the United Way 211 and the state's network of shelters to make sure the most vulnerable people get protection from the storm.
It is expected that most of Connecticut to get somewhere close to or over a foot of snow.
The Governor also provided an update on Connecticut's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Connecticut administered 31,277 tests and 2,319 came back positive. The positivity rate increased to 7.41 percent. There was a slight decrease in hospitalizations since Tuesday by 15 people. The state now has 1,254 patients being treated for the virus in the hospital.
There were 40 more deaths reported on Wednesday bringing the state's COVID-19 related deaths to 5,506 people.
