The National Weather Service says the Hartford area has broken a 37-year-old record for most days in a year with temperatures at or above 90 degrees.
The temperature Tuesday at Bradley International Airport hit 90 degrees, the 39th day of 2020 that the temperature has been at or above that mark. The previous record was 38 days in 1983.
Weather Service meteorologist Tim Morrin says the Bermuda high-pressure system in the Atlantic Ocean has strengthened and expanded this year. That has caused sustained warm and dry conditions.
There are moderate and severe drought conditions in nearly two-thirds of the state.
