OLD LYME, Conn. — While Tropical Storm Henri spared most of the state from major damage, some areas that were harder hit now have Eversource crews tending to trees and branches that could threaten their power supply during upcoming storms.
Eversource is currently working in concert with 16 Connecticut towns to mitigate tree issues by bringing crews to cut down branches that could snap powerlines or create outage scenarios.
In Old Lyme, efforts to remove problem trees began about four days before Henri hit, crews continued the initiative Wednesday on Chadwick Drive where most branches had been cut and removal trucks were picking up the timber.
Susan Stotts, a New London County-based Eversource arborist said, “it’s a new effort to partner with towns and communities after storms to help with cleanup and help prevent more outages.”
The Eversource tree crews are currently working in towns like Old Lyme, Glastonbury, North Stonington, and Canterbury. These are all locations that endured a stronger impact from Tropical Storm Henri.
David Roberge, the fire marshal and emergency management director in Old Lyme, welcomed the new program and is helping with the efforts that Eversource has begun.
“This is about community involvement,” said Roberge. “It’s the utilities involvement, and also the homeowners here have a piece of this game.”
