MANCHESTER, Conn. — Drivers in Manchester can't go far down the street without stumbling upon the cracked pavement and caved-in roadway on Ambassador Drive.
At Charter State Park, the bleachers and swings sit halfway underwater.
On Monday, communities across the area began the hard work to clean up what Henri left behind.
Connecticut state leaders have promised to fight for federal funding to drive what they call an ‘expensive’ mess.
"I noticed a little water running down Ambassador Drive and by the time we got out the door the street down farther was covered," said Paul Misuraca, who has lived near Ambassador Drive for 19 years.
Shauna Brown's home is directly next door to the damaged roadway.
“I came outside around 7 p.m.,” she said. “…Almost sounded like an earthquake.”
Brown was also among the neighbors who scooped up fish from the sidewalk and tossed them back into the creek that runs under Ambassador Drive.
On Monday, Senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal toured the area.
“We’re going to fight like the devil for any kinds of funds necessary to repair this type of damage,” said Blumenthal, as both Senators warned the community to stay on guard for the potential of more damage and more flooding as heavy rain continued into Monday.
