MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — While the pandemic has slowed down business for Matt Rook a bit, the recent run of Winter weather has him back up to speed.
For the past 23 years, Rook has owned “A-Marvelous Car Wash” and there has been a steady stream of business since storm after storm has rolled into the State. “So far it's been a very busy season and the weather has cooperated for people who own car washes,” said Rook.
AAA estimates Americans spend about $3 billion dollars a year on repairing damage to their vehicles due to road salt and liquids that help keep the streets and highways safe and clear of ice.
Amy Parmenter, a AAA of Connecticut spokeswoman said, “It’s really critical that you wash off that (salt) liquid from the undercarriage of your vehicle otherwise it could rust some important elements, like the brakes.”
Parmenter added, “this is really much more than a cosmetic issue, it’s more of a safety issue.”
Rook said he expects to see as many as 700 customers stop in for car washes this weekend after the latest round of snow falls across Connecticut. “You should get out there and wash your car,” Rook then laughed, “because it won’t take care of itself.”
